3. File check
Use Check files …, on the same row as the ‘Live monitoring’ toggle, to measure finished WAV and FLAC files (8-384 kHz) in any channel layout. Add or drop several files, choose a reference target or Custom limits, and hover over a result or value to see its limit and status.
File Check runs independently of live monitoring and does not change meter settings or session state.
Changing the target re-evaluates existing measurements without rescanning. Recheck all reads the files again. Cancel stops the current scan; completed files remain available, a cancelled file keeps any earlier result, and partial measurements are not evaluated. Save HTML … creates a readable report and Save CSV … saves the complete batch for a spreadsheet. Results describe files at measurement time, so recheck after editing or replacing them.
Measurements include duration, sample rate, channel count, channel layout, and:
| Measurement | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Integrated LUFS | BS.1770 K-weighting and gating over the file, weighted by channel layout with LFE excluded; requires at least 400 ms and measurable gated audio. |
| Whole-file RMS | Mean squared sample energy across all channels, including LFE and silence, expressed in dBFS. |
| LRA | Gated short-term loudness range per EBU Tech 3342; requires at least 3 seconds. Below 60 seconds it is provisional and its limit is not evaluated. |
| Sample peak | Highest absolute sample across all channels, in dBFS. |
| True peak | Highest reconstructed peak across all channels, in dBTP. |
Integrated, LRA, and true peak use the same measurement and channel weighting as live metering. Channels without a known position, such as unlabeled discrete channels, do not count toward Integrated or LRA.
Each selected criterion is Within range, Outside range, or Not evaluated, using unrounded measurements. Missing measurements, unselected limits, and a mismatched mono/stereo profile are not evaluated. Silence has -inf RMS and peak readings; its Integrated and LRA readings are unavailable.
In Custom limits, choose Integrated LUFS or whole-file RMS and enter inclusive minimum/maximum values. Optionally set maximum true peak (dBTP), sample peak (dBFS), and LRA (LU). Leave a field blank to omit that limit.
Streaming targets are playback references, not upload acceptance tests. The ACX profile checks RMS and sample peak only. Noise floor, encoding, chapter spacing, dialogue gating, and other delivery requirements are not evaluated. Dialogue-gated Netflix checks are not supported. A report evaluates only the selected audio limits.
The standalone provides the same file checker without opening its normal audio interface:
--check-file=<path>selects an input; repeat it for a batch.--check-inputs=<path>reads a JSON array of input paths.--check-target=<id>selects a profile. The defaultmeasure-onlyreports measurements without limits. Run--helpfor supported target IDs.--check-html=<path>and--check-csv=<path>save reports.--check-json=<path>saves measurements and criterion results as JSON; otherwise JSON is printed to standard output.
Example: <standalone-app> --check-file="chapter.wav" --check-target=acx-chapter --check-html="chapter-report.html"
Exit codes: 0 means all files were measured and met any selected limits; 1 means a selected criterion was outside range or could not be evaluated; 2 means invalid input, a measurement failure, or a report-writing error.
